Every MSU Virtual University student will receive an "MSU NetID" and password. This ID is used by all MSU students, faculty, and staff, on and off campus and provides access to:

The ability to connect to the Internet via modem from around the State of Michigan is an important privilege of Virtual University students, and it is governed by the MSU Acceptable Use Policy.

If you don't live in the state of Michigan there are other options! Please call us at 1-800-500-1554 (North America and Hawaii) or 517-355-2345 (other international) if you need help.

Students taking courses through Virtual University may also use the resources of Michigan State University Libraries. MSU Library Outreach Services is designed to meet the information needs of students registered for off campus Virtual University courses and provides on-line means for requesting library books, materials and services.

In some courses, MSU will provide other resources (e.g., books or software) with the associated expense included as part of the enrollment fee. Please consult the information describing the course in which you are interested.

Finally, VU has set up an Online Orientation for the MSU Virtual University (How2VU). This web site will step you through creating your MSU network authorization and provide a hands-on overview of basic VU web site tools and navigation. Exercises are included to give you an opportunity to explore the various tools at your own pace and before you are required to use them in your courses. We strongly recommend that you complete the exercises over several visits, as there is a great deal of information contained in this site.
